The gutter is cursed by every passerby
The masks they wear are sour empty smiles
Where fools and hypocrites live out their lives
Counting things to buy and marking time
Amidst the lottery tickets and cigarette butts
The windswept news and empty coffee cups
There’s little fortune and far less of luck
Each glance averted twisting in the guts
It’s cold and empty out here in the trash
There’s warmth and plenty behind steel and glass
The pulse is gone and to the wind we’re cast
To a dead zone so merciless and vast
The wind is strongest by the tallest towers
It emanates from concentrated power
The night is cruelest in its’ darkest hour
As silence wails and my reflection glower
Between the elements and the police
There’s just no sanctuary, rest, or peace
A night so long forever fails to cease
When you have so little of the least
The dark brings out the worst parts of your mind
To search for reasons to try and survive
Your last shred of humanity try and find
A reason why you had to stay out side
There’s no way in and nowhere to hide
So follow the wind and stay outside
The eyes of strangers and cameras are fixed on me
I’ve often tried invisibility
It only works when I need to be seen
The shadows still cling ever fast to me
